MY DOG KILLED A CAT
A REDDIT POST REIMAGINED
We financed and produced this short film in the depths of COVID lockdown, December 2020 — a dark comedy loosely re-enacting a viral story pulled from Reddit, involving a dog, a cat, and a very defensive pet owner. The concept: our lead delivers the entire five-minute story directly to camera, dog in lap, while the camera dollies away and pushes back in — seemingly all in one unbroken shot. Along the way, we cut to dramatized flashbacks and a running group text thread, aiming for something that felt like Geico made a short film.
Shot entirely inside a single Los Angeles living room on a RED Monstro, the "one-take" illusion actually relied on a surprising amount of VFX work behind the scenes to stitch the location together seamlessly. We also brought on an animal wrangler for our canine lead, Sherman — an American Bulldog whose easy charm did most of the emotional heavy lifting.
